085410 Master's Program in Artificial Intelligence (Professional Degree)
I. Introduction
The School of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Nanjing University was inaugurated in May 2018, distinguishing itself as the pioneering AI school among the esteemed C9 League universities—an alliance of nine elite universities in China, akin to the Ivy League in the United States and the Russell Group in the United Kingdom. Recognizing the unique demands of cultivating artificial intelligence talent, Nanjing University proactively addressed key challenges in advanced AI professional education. Leading the way, the university developed and introduced China’s inaugural AI undergraduate educational framework, the “Nanjing University Artificial Intelligence Undergraduate Professional Education and Training System”.
Research field & faculty : Led by Professor Zhou Zhihua, Vice-President of Nanjing University (Fellow of ACM, AAAI, AAAS, IEEE, IAPR) and affiliated with about 30 faculty members and staff, the school has extended its research efforts across nearly all pivotal domains of Artificial Intelligence, encompassing Machine Learning and Data Mining, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Natural Language Processing, Robotics, Multi-Agent Systems, among others. The School of AI has an acclaimed team of scholars who are at the forefront of research and has been well-recognized with an array of honors. Our faculty members also actively contribute to the academic community by serving in editorial roles for prominent journals, including as editor-in-chief, action editor, and associate editor for authoritative publications such as MLJ, TPAMI, TKDD, TKDE etc. Moreover, they hold key positions as program chairs and area chairs at leading AI conferences such as AAAI, IJCAI, ICML, NeurIPS, KDD, and CVPR etc. E.g., our Vice-President, Professor Zhou, has held the role of program chair for AAAI-2019, a top-tier AI conference established in 1980. He has also undertaken the same responsibility for IJCAI-2021, another leading AI conference founded in 1969. Additionally, Professor Zhou is the recipient of the IEEE Computer Society Edward J. McCluskey Technical Achievement Award. Professor Yu Yang was highlighted as one of “AI’s 10 to Watch: The Future of AI” by IEEE Intelligent Systems Magazine in 2018 and has also been awarded PAKDD Early Career Award, etc.For detailed faculty profiles, please visit the website: https://ai.nju.edu.cn/people/list.htm.
Student achievement: Over the past five years, twenty students in AI-related fields have been honored with national and provincial awards for their excellent doctoral or master’s theses. A series of papers have been published in prestigious academic conferences and authoritative journals. Our graduates are predominantly employed by forefront companies in AI-related high-tech sectors, and a select number of high-achieving individuals have advanced their academic pursuits at globally renowned universities.
Industry cooperation: We prioritize the alignment of our talent development with industry demands. By engaging in joint laboratory initiatives with Huawei, Intel Corporation, and other leading firms, as well as through on-site and off-site training centers established by ByteDance, JD.com, and Megvii, our AI school is dedicated to fostering students’ proficiency in resolving practical industry challenges. This industry-focused talent cultivation model has garnered significant recognition and acclaim from the industrial sector.
