The Institute for International Students is both anadministrative institution responsible for international students’ enrollmentat Nanjing University and an academic institution that conducts teaching andresearches mainly in Chinese language and culture.

Nanjing University is one of the top tier universities inChina, and also one of the first to enroll international students in mainland,China. We have hosted more than 20,000 international students from over 120countries to date, with prominent international alumni in politics, business,academia and other fields.

The Institute comprises of such academic units as Departmentof Chinese Language, Department of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language (TCFL),the Comparative Study Institute of Chinese and Foreign Cultures, GraduateDivision, Short-term Training Division, and Center for TCFL Education, Researchand Text Materials. It has been developed a comprehensive system on Chineselanguage and culture teaching, offering short-term language training as well asdegree programs.

The Institute boasts a team of experienced and devotedfaculty and instructors. Currently in the Institute there are 39 full-timefaculty members, 23 of whom are professors or associate professors, and over 30adjunct faculty and instructors.

The Institute has established a wide range ofinternational cooperation with governments, business companies, diplomaticcircles, armies, and educational institutions including primary schools,secondary schools and colleges and universities. It serves as a training sitefor such diverse organizations as the Chinese Department of UN, the Council onInternational Education Exchange (CIEE), the Chinese Teaching Association ofNew York Area and the American National Chinese Flagship Program.

The Institute is designated as a national test site forthe Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), the Test of Practical Chinese (C. Test) andthe TCFL Capability Test. HSK pre-courses is a regular program here and HSKtest participants from the Institute keep a high ranking record.
