085100 Master's Program in Architecture (Professional Degree)


. Introduction

This program is aimed at cultivating high-level architectural and urban designing professionals. It draws on its profound research in architectural design as well as architectural history and theories, carries out globally cutting-edge research on emerging urban architecture, digital architecture and green architecture. After completing all the course work and succeeding in thesis defense, students will receive a Master's Degree of Architecture.

The School of Architecture and Urban Planning in NJU has a highly qualified faculty of 65 full-time members, among whom there are 19 professors and 19 associate professors. An outstanding characteristic of this program is its internationalization as all in the team have educational backgrounds of world-renowned universities and have rich research and practical experiences.

. Objectives of the Program

1.General Objective

The program is designed to cultivate high-level talents of architectural design with a solid and broad academic foundation, high adaptability and spirit of innovation. It enables students to master theories of architecture and urban design, learn about the Chinese experience and learn to cope with the challenge of globalization.

2. Research Fields

(1) Architectural Design & Theory

This specialty covers architectural design, construction practice, digital architecture technology, BIM technology application, sustainable architecture technology, traditional architecture renewal, rural revitalization and so on.

(2) Architectural History & Theory

This specialty covers research on construction theories, architectural history and culture in modern China, contemporary architectural criticism and so on.

(3) Urban Design & Theory

This specialty focuses on problems of high-density cities and rural rejuvenation in the course of urbanization, including the quantitative description method of urban morphology, urban morphology and microclimate, the narrative method of urban space and urban memory, urban and rural sustainable landscape, and urban renewal.


. Requirements

1. Admission

(1) Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

(2) Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in architecture, urban and rural planning, landscape architecture, environmental art or other related fields.

(3) Applicants whose native language is not English should submit TOFEL or IETLS scores (minimal requirement: TOEFL 85; IELTS 6.0).

(4)Applicants should be willing to learn Chinese and reach Level 3 of Chinese Language Proficiency Scales For Speakers of Other Language(Elementary Chinese) before graduation.

2. Medium of Instruction: English.

3. Study Duration: 2 years.

Tuition: RMB 35,000 (about $5,000) per academic year
